34-143 - Lanckorona, Poland.
Lanckorona is a place that captivates anyone who wishes to experience the spirit of bygone times, while also enjoying peace and an idyllic atmosphere. As a royal town founded by Casimir III the Great, Lanckorona is rich in fascinating history. The establishment of a castle by this king in the 14th century made the town a strategic point, protecting the routes to Krakow. In later years, the castle changed owners, and its ruins can still be seen today at the top of Lanckorona Hill. Located only 30 km south of Krakow, Lanckorona perfectly combines history and modernity. The unique architecture of the 19th-century wooden houses makes walking through Lanckorona feel like a journey through time. The historic Market Square, with its distinctive, far-reaching roofs, is the heart of this charming village. Interestingly, the Market Square in Lanckorona noticeably slopes down, due to its location on the southern slope of Castle Hill. It was said that this hill guarded the boundary between Krakow and the Duchy of Oświęcim when Lanckorona was a strategic fortress.
